The concentration in Early Childhood Language and Literacy will prepare you in the theory and practice of teaching reading and writing for preschool through third grade. You will examine the latest research and gain specialized insights about how young children learn to read and write, and how this learning is influenced by cultural and community contexts. The program curriculum is aligned with the , , and the recommendations of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
This concentration prepares you to seek the Illinois Gateways to Opportunity Early Care and Education Credential, Levels 2-5, through the Entitled Route. To earn the credential, you will need to complete the appropriate Gateways application and provide documentation of your academic and professional experiences.
