Dual degree program

Our innovative dual degree program gives current and aspiring child development and family service leaders not only in-depth knowledge of child development but also a grounding in legal issues involving young children and their families. You will earn an MS in Child Development from Erikson Institute and an MJ in Children’s Law and Policy from Loyola University of Chicago.

国产偷拍视频You will have the opportunity to shape the law portion of your program by selecting four of your own electives at Loyola’s law school. While Loyola’s Master of Jurisprudence program offers you rich legal instruction, it does not allow you to practice law or sit for the bar exam.

国产偷拍视频You can complete this dual degree program in 28 months or three years.

Children’s Law and Policy concentration

Not interested in earning the MJ but still want to learn how to advocate for children and families impacted by the legal system? Then consider the Children’s Law and Policy concentration offered within our MS in Child Development degree.

国产偷拍视频You will still take child law courses at the Loyola University Chicago School of Law, but the Children’s Law and Policy concentration requires fewer courses than the dual MS/MJ degree.

If you start in this concentration, you can later opt to pursue the dual MS/MJ degree. Learn more

I chose to pursue the dual degree program because my end goal has always been to work with DCFS. Understanding how law and policy and child development mesh together will give me the tools to help protect children.

It’s important to note that depending on your chosen concentration and specific internship requirements, you will be required to be available during business hours two or three days per week during your internship year. Evening/weekend internships are very uncommon, so we encourage you to plan ahead and communicate as necessary with your employer in advance of your final year in the master’s program.

The staff in our Field Education and Career Services Office will work with you to prepare you for seeking positions while you’re enrolled at Erikson and upon graduating from the program. You’ll receive feedback on your resume and cover letters, and we also maintain a job board on our campus portal where employers list part-time and full-time positions for which they’re hiring.

国产偷拍视频The Career Services team also plans an annual social work, early education and child development job fair for Erikson students and alumni. In concert with the job fair, you can submit your resume to be included in an annual Resume Book that we distribute to hundreds of organizations and managers who are interested in hiring Erikson students and alumni.
